How do you bow before GOD?
The Scriptures mention people bowing before GOD and His messengers; Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Gideon, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Elijah, Elisha, John to name a few. But how did they bow? Sometimes it says they lay or fell prostrate or bowed to the ground.
So how do you bow to GOD? Do you bow at the waist, on one or both knees with your face and/or hands raised or lowered, on both knees with your face to the ground with your arms extended or not, lying flat on your face with your arms extended to the sides like a cross? These are all forms of bowing that we use during prayer, worship or the physical presence of GOD.
According to 1 Samuel 15:22 bowing our heart is more important than bowing our body, “Samuel said: ‘Does The LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of The LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay heed than the fat of rams.’” (Hosea 6:6; Matthew 9:13, 12:7; Mark 12:33)
“So when MESSIAH comes into the world, He says, ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me. In whole burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not delight. Then I said, “Behold, I come to do Your Will, O GOD (in the Scroll of the Book it is written of Me)”’. After saying above, ‘Sacrifices and whole burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them.’ (those which are offered according to Torah), then He said, ‘Behold, I come to do Your Will.’ He takes away the first to establish the second. By His Will we have been made holy through the offerings of the body of MESSIAH JESUS once for all.” Hebrews 10:5-10
GOD is after the bowing of our heart, mind and desires (our will) to Him, to serve Him in obedience to His Will. Yet according to the principle JESUS taught the Pharisees about tithing and mercy, don’t do the one (tithing) and leave out the other (mercy); if we only bow our body and not our will, we are like the Pharisees!
