Matthew 5:43-6:4
Introduction:
“And JESUS went about all Galilee
teaching in their Synagogues, preaching The Gospel of The Kingdom and Healing
all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His Fame
went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were
afflicted with various diseases and torments and those who were
demon-possessed, epileptics; and He Healed them all. Great multitudes followed
Him – from Galilee and Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and beyond Jordan. And
seeing the multitudes He went up on a mountain and when He was seated His
disciples came to Him; then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:”
Matthew 4:23-5:2
5:43-44 “You have heard that it
was said, ‘You shall Love your neighbor (Leviticus 19:18) and hate your enemy.
(Deuteronomy 23:3-8; Psalm 139:19-22)’ But I say to you, Love your enemies
(Romans 12:17-21, Bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and
pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you (Jeremiah 29:6-7; Acts
7:59-60).” Wow! Love your enemy? Is there a precedent for this (Proverbs
24:17-18, 25:21-22)?
5:45 “that you may be sons of your
Father in Heaven (John 1:12-13; Galatians 3:23-29); for He makes His sun rise
on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust
(Proverbs 15:3; 2 Peter 3:8-9).”
5:46-48 “For if you Love those who
Love you, what reward have you? Do not even tax collectors do the same? And if
you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even
Gentiles do so? Therefore you shall be Perfect just as your Father in Heaven is
Perfect (Ephesians 5:1-2; Colossians 1:27-29; 1 Peter 1:13-21)!
6:1-2 “Take heed that you do not
do your Charitable deeds before men to be seen by them (This is a command to do
Charitable deeds and to do them in private as much as possible; Mark 10:17-22,
14:7; Acts 20:34-35). Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in Heaven
(1 Corinthians 3:8-15). Therefore when you do a charitable deed do not sound a
trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,
that you may have glory from men (Luke 14:12-14). Assuredly I say to you, they
have their reward (Luke 21:1-4).”
