Repentance
Jesus said
to the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda, “Go and sin no more, lest a worse
thing come upon you.” He said to the woman caught in adultery, “Go and sin no
more.”
Paul said to
the Ephesians, “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth
with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another. ‘Be angry and do not sin’;
do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. Let him
who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands
what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. Let no
corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary
edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the
Holy Spirit of GOD, by
whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath,
anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be
kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as GOD in Christ forgave you.” To
the Galatians, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the
lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit
against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do
the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under
the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions,
jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy,
murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand,
just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will
not inherit the Kingdom of GOD.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not
become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” To the
Corinthians, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the
flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in GOD for pulling down
strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of GOD,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being
ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” To the
Philippians, “Therefore my beloved as you have always obeyed, not as in my
presence only but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with
fear and trembling; for it is GOD
who works in you both to will and to od for His good pleasure. Do all things
without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless,
children of GOD without
fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine
as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in
the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
