IS Wealth Equal to Robbery and Extortion?

Wealth and Riches

Is wealth equal to robbery and extortion?

Psalm 62:10(9)-11(10) “Ordinary folks are merely a breath and important people a sham; if you lay them on a balance-scale, they go up – both together are lighter than nothing. Don’t put your trust in extortion, don’t put false hopes in robbery; even if wealth increases; don’t set your heart on it.” CJB

Psalm 62:9-10 “Surly men of low degree are a vapor, men of high degree are a lie; if they are weighted on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapor. Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” NKJV

(Proverbs 1:10-19, 4:14-19, 17:11) [Job7:18, Psalm 39:5, Isaiah 40:17, Job 31:25, Mark 10:24, Luke 12:15, 1 Timothy 6:10]

Revelation 2:9 “I know how you are suffering and how poor you are (though in fact you are rich!), and I know the insults of those who call themselves Jews but aren’t – on the contrary, they are a synagogue of the adversary.” CJB

Revelation 2:9 “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of satan.” NKJV [Luke 12:21, Romans 2:17]

Revelation 3:17-18 “For you keep saying ‘I am rich, I have gotten rich, I don’t need a thing!’ You don’t know that you are the one that is wretched, pitiable, poor, blind and naked. My advise to you is to buy from Me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may be dressed and not have to be ashamed of your nakedness; and eyesalve to rub on your eyes, so that you may see.” CJB

Revelation 3:17-18 “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ – and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked – I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” NKJV

(Proverbs 1:8, Psalm 19:7-14) [Hosea 12:9(8), Isaiah 55:1, 2 Corinthians 5:3]

Wealth, riches and treasure are well taught in The Bible, wealth in some form is mentioned in 27 Scriptures; some form of rich is used in 179 Scriptures and treasure in some form is used 100 times in Scripture. The teachings are mostly about the good and bad effects of riches.

There are the standards like, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where rust and moth destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19-21) There are also numerous Scriptures that deal with the subject but do not use any form of those three words like, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” (1Timothy 6:10)

Most of JESUS’ teachings on wealth, riches and treasure we negative; like Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31); how hard it is for the rich to get saved (Matthew 19:16-25, Mark 10:17-25, Luke 18:18-27); woe to the rich (Luke 6:24); the rich farmer (Luke 12:13-21).

Some of JESUS’ teachings reinforced sacrificing all for the Kingdom of GOD; giving up everything (Matthew 19:25-30, Mark 10:25-31, Luke 18:26-30); the widow’s offering (Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4); The Kingdom brings a change of heart and mind (Luke 19:1-10).

My point is that GOD does not want us to seek earthly riches or treasure, He Wills some to be financiers of His earthly Kingdom but not very many for the cost of wealth is hard on the soul of man.

Is my subtitle, “Is wealth equal to robbery and extortion?”, based on Psalm 62:9-10, answered in your mind?

Study these Scriptures and see what GOD shows you, take your time and study them in their context. Like the wise men who brought treasures to the child JESUS, Joseph and Mary were able to use them to support their family when they had to go to Egypt and then return to Nazareth where they had to start over (Matthew 2).
