What Then? by Kelly Lynch

What Then?

You know those posts of expectation vs reality? Where one looks nothing like the other and often quiet laughable?

What about when you have an expectation of God or an expectation in life. When what you thought would be an outcome or direction you would be going, is not where you are and things simply look and feel different. Or even when you didn't have an expectation but life has made a turn that you didn't see coming.

Then what?

Allow me to share what David had to say as he struggled with the Lord.

"How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me."

Psalms 13:1-4, 6 NIV

Go back and read that again. Take note that he was so vulnerable before God. He was honest with how he was feeling.

Then he told God what he needed in boldness.

But, we don't see what the answer was, we don't see God's response.

What we do see is David's response to his own situation. What was it?

I WILL SING

Why? Because He has been good to me.

Yet we didn't see or hear that God had done anything there. But David knows His Father God. He knows the Lord and has a deep relationship with Him.

So without the answer and without anything changing, He knows God's goodness.

No matter where you are, no matter your situation, no matter the littleness or greatness of your struggle or pain.

He IS good to you.

Our response to Him is to surrender our hearts, worship Him and trust in His goodness.

So this is my petition...

Lord Pour me out and empty me

So all that's left is You, for others to see.

When questions rule and answers hide

Let peace come in and calm my mind.
