"Blessed are the poor in
spirit....those who mourn...the meek...those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness...the merciful...the pure in heart...the peacemakers...those
who are persecuted for righteousness sake...when others revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my (JESUS')
account...for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven...they shall be
comforted...they shall inherit the earth...be satisfied...receive mercy...see
God... be called sons of God...for your reward is great in heaven." (Based on Matt 5:3-11)
To be blessed, the first condition must be met before the blessing is
received. For example, Matthew 5:3 in the Amplified Bible says, "Blessed
(happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction
in God's favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the
poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant), for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven!"
Apparently, the kingdom of heaven goes to the poor in spirit who are humble
and rate themselves insignificant. This is highly offensive in our culture
and the church today. We love to spend time talking about how important we
are in CHRIST, but when was the last time you heard anyone talk about our
insignificance? I have to laugh as I write this because we would never do
that; it's just too offensive. Yet, the scripture is so clear that we need to
see ourselves in this light and humble ourselves before the KING of kings. Is
this too old-fashioned for us? Have we climbed to higher heights of
revelation in our generation? Is this why we love to boast of our authority,
ministries, giftings and ingenuity like the proud peacock shows off its
feathers?
JESUS said, "Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn
about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving],
you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all]." (Matt 18:3
AMP)
It appears that you not only need to become like a little child to enter the
kingdom of heaven but need to stay as a little child (humble, dependent,
trusting) to gain the rewards of heaven. JESUS continues in Matthew 18:4 by
saying, "Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven."
So we come back to the question: Are we blessed? Are we the "poor
in spirit....those who mourn...the meek...those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness...the merciful...the pure in heart...the peacemakers...those
who are persecuted for righteousness sake...(do) others revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my (JESUS')
account...?"
Are we blessed? Or have we redefined blessing to mean something different? Is
it time to repent and come back to the Word of GOD? Are we ready to allow GOD
to realign our thoughts, mindsets, and hearts to receive the pure truth of
HIS Word?
I end with tears and pray you will allow the LORD to redefine what it means
to be blessed and embrace it as life to you. In JESUS' name, amen.
