"And to the angel of
the church in Sardis write: 'The words of him who has the seven spirits of
God and the seven stars. I know your works. You have the reputation of being
alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to
die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.
Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will
not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I
will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who
have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white,
for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in
white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I
will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. He who has an
ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'" Revelation 3:1-6
There is tremendous insight into GOD's ways in this passage. I chose to
insert the six verses because it is important to understand the context.
Please read these six verses slowly and meditate on them. The area in which I
want to illuminate today is found at the end of verse four, "they
are worthy."
We live in a time where we want to escape from any responsibility. We like to
blame others for why we are in our situation. We even teach the grace of GOD
in such a way that there is no accountability for our actions, only
forgiveness and love.
We have no problem ascribing the worth of JESUS (which is very good to do),
but when it comes to our own lives, how have we responded to HIS worth? Are
we worthy? Where are you at in these verses? Are you among the few who are
worthy, or the many who are not?
"I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you
are dead." The Lord does not tolerate hypocrisy. He sees right
through it and holds us accountable for it. He knows our lifestyle, and
though those around us may think we are alive, the LORD sees we are dead. We
must not allow ourselves to be fooled into thinking we are ok when we are
not. This is a grave mistake and could lead to a disastrous end.
Are you worthy? If not, the LORD gives us instruction in how to resolve
this: "Wake up, and strengthen what remains and
is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my
God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and
repent." Revelation 3:2-3
Are your works complete in the sight of the LORD? If not, there is hope by
waking up, strengthening yourself, remembering what you received and heard
from the LORD, keeping it close to your heart, and repenting. Don't delay or
go another day incomplete in the sight of GOD. Turn to HIM today and start by
WAKING UP.
