“I have been crucified with CHRIST, it is no longer I who live, but CHRIST Lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in The Son of GOD, Who Loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.” James 1:3
“Believe steadfastly in JESUS and all you come up against will develop your faith.”
Oswald Chambers
In the Western Church we are always looking for the “Good Life”, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they (the sheep that follow His voice) may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I Am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd give His Life for the sheep.” John 10:10-11
Abundantly is a easy word to understand and a hard word to live. The Greek word used here is pĕrissŏs – per-is-sos’: Strong’s 4053 which is from pĕri – per-ee’; Strong’s 4012 which is based on pĕran – per-an’; Strong’s 4008. Trying to understand them all is complicated, look them up yourself. Pĕrissŏs basically means superabundant, which most Christians know and believe, but the context is not in the format that most Christians think of because we have been taught it is about the “Good Life” of ease and comfort.
In context JESUS is revealing Himself as The Good Shepherd who protects and provides for His Sheep abundantly. That means that He is leading us beside still waters to green pastors and watches over us to protect us from the wolves and other predators. That is the abundant physical life He is promising us. He also gives us His SPIRIT, His Grace and His Mercy, they are the abundance for both our physical and spiritual life.
The SPIRIT gives us council, training, wisdom, knowledge, gifts and brings forth fruit in our lives; these all require time and commitment. Grace comes when we are under attack of trials, tribulations and persecutions; mercy is for our testings.
If you’re living the “Good Life” of ease and comfort you might not be one of The Good Shepherd’s sheep!
Seek GOD First!
