Memorial Day 2023

Memorial Day 2023

“Greater Love has no one that this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13

On Memorial Day in America we remember those who have laid down their lives for us all friends, loved ones and enemies. Whether soldiers, first responders or good samaritans from the earliest days of America men and women have made the sacrifices necessary for the rest of us to survive and succeed.

Many have given their health and wellbeing, some have given their fortunes and too many have given their lives for the rest of us and our future generations to live in freedom. Because of their sacrifice, some unwillingly, we have the freedom to pursue our own wellbeing, prosperity and peace.

That is what makes this country so desirable to people all over the world!

There is One Life given that is above all the rest!

The Life of JESUS CHRIST, given for the whole world so that no one would have to suffer eternal damnation. But the choice is ours to make. While all Americans receive the benefit of the sacrifice of other Americans no matter what; only those who accept JESUS as LORD and Savior will receive Eternal Life.

GOD Bless America!

GOD's Placement For You by Derrick Ssemande

5/18/23 - Derrick Ssemande: GODS PLACEMENT FOR YOU.

GOD will always place you somewhere in a position that you have no idea about what will really happen there and your only task is to trust the “process”.

The WILL of GOD can never place (lead) you where the GRACE of GOD can not keep you. In this way you’re with HIM in each and every situation you are going through, we can confirm this by Mark 1:12 Immediately the [Holy] Spirit [from within] drove Him out into the wilderness (desert),

Mark 1:13 And He stayed in the wilderness (desert) forty days, being tempted [all the while] by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to Him [continually].  You can visit several version but they all have the term “Immediately” in fact it’s used over and over in this book of Mark.

I used the term “PROCESS” because He is the only one over access granted or access denied, He is the only one over promotions. Our God knows all what we need and we want, in this case He focuses on what we need not our wants since we all have a calling (purpose) to fulfill, God will only put you where He knows that your purpose will happen, that’s the second step He reveals to you after placing you somewhere.  God creates the place and situation for you before you’re placed there, it can be pleasant to you or not but it all works out for your own good so that His name is Glorified through you.  We are weaker vessels meaning we can’t do anything on our own because we are only blood and flesh. So His mighty name is Praised and Glorified through us for completing great things in our lives.  God crated Eden before creating Adam, okay!, and when He finally created  man He then “planted” a “Garden” in Eden. At first it was a whole but He specified this by planting a garden in “East of Eden” where he put man after everything was put there.

Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being. [I Cor. 15:45-49.]

Genesis 2:8 And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted).  After man was put in the garden the purpose was also revealed.

Genesis 2:15 And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.

After He reveals your purpose to you it’ll come with some guidelines as your “forbidden fruit”, a forbidden fruit can be anything.

Genesis 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Adam was given freedom to eat every fruit from every tree except one, this is a live example, you can be somewhere in a stable position to do whatever you want but if you’re to succeed with your purpose you need to have self sacrifice and self denial character just like Joseph and apostle Paul did.  Joseph knew well that he was given authority over everything in the house except Potiphar’s wife and he was well grounded with self sacrifice and self denial character.

I have heard many people complaining about their situation, homes, families, schools, education levels, towns, jobs, performance, financial status, figures, society ideas, and many more of which I know you have some personal complaints too which you have never told no body before and you’re the reason why am here.   I’m going to try going personal briefly and share some few things about my life maybe you can be blessed with it.

I was born from a small village by uneducated parents, I remember giving my report card to my dear Mom and she flipped it upside down pretending to be reading through but she actually can’t read or write.  My Mom and Dad separated before I was even born you may wonder how this happened but she left pregnant, I got all this from my grandma. I struggled with my life from a very young age and I do have scars all over my body mostly legs, God placed me in schools where our financial status at home can never afford and He kept me there by His sufficient Grace and Mercy.

My name was only used for jokes because I was so thin, too short and this resulted into many nicknames which were maybe funny to them and I thought life was only about that. The same person who faced many challenges who could not even afford to have two meals a day is now organizing charity events under “GREEN CHARITY CITY”.

Right now am pursuing my last year in high school and am finishing this very year. I had planned to stop at senior four (S4) if at all God wished because I didn’t know that I would really do it. and when I finally got it done I thought that’s the end of my education journey but something happened in a miraculous manner and I went back to school for Advanced level and everyone was so surprised, It’s challenging but true that am the most education person from my family, hope you don’t pity me.

I kept on wondering how possible that am back to school and why am I even there at school but in a couple of months I came to realize why it’s that way and am well convinced that my purpose was revealed to me and it’s the one of the reasons why am writing this now.

This goes to  students, I know you have friends who have joined better schools as you think in terms of structures, meals, performance, it’s like they are far better than yours do but I want to tell you that God has reasons why you’re there. There must be some significant reason why yours is set in such a way, there is nothing like a coincidence or a mistake in GODS will for your life.

The same applies to every one of the calibers I mentioned above there for example family, you might be coming from a disorganized family they a kind of crazy but yes God is using it to teach you some stuff you’ll never learn from anywhere else and that’s why Christ was sent to  wilderness for 40 days. Everyone of us has his or her wilderness that empowers them to their purpose the same way apostle Paul was. Take an example of the arrows on the bowstring, the more you pull it the more impact that will be caused, so you’re the arrow just make sure you get ready to make a great impact in relation to your purpose.

The only problem with us we fight the places that God puts us in, we fight the churches He plants us in, we fight everything He does for us and we spend most of our time worrying just because we are getting old and mostly we listen to people’s ideas that won’t take us anywhere. They are saying by 20 years you should be doing this and this.

I know some parents are demanding you grand kids and others are saying you should be married by now others you should be engaged by now but trust me it’s okay to be single up to any age the Lord directs you to  though some societies refer to this as a curse but it is not.

Instead of listening to peoples thoughts about your life, why don’t you spare that precious time to seek the Lord’s voice. He is communicating to you but you’re always busy worrying, He wants to close and open up other doors for the next level for you but you’re so stuck with the doorknob, why don’t you let go and let Him take control.  You do a lot to please people but that’s why you were created. Apostle Paul emphasizes this when he was writing to Timothy.

1 Timothy 5:21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the chosen angels that you guard and keep [these rules] without personal prejudice or favor, doing nothing from partiality.

Some of us pray so hard and sometimes fast but when you look down your heart are you really praying for what you need or what you want!?

Let me tell you this. GODS will is not subjected to us but we are the subjects to GODS will. The scriptures will not bow down to you but you will bow down to them.

In simple terms God will facilitate everything for your purpose not your luxury lifestyle that you want. And mind you, the devil is not afraid of who you pretend to be but afraid of who you were created to be so you shouldn’t be too proud of any level you’re at. This is a good reminder that you should put the most successful thing in your life be the smallest thing in comparison to the life God has called you to live.  John the baptism understood this and he was never too proud of who he was despite the fact that he baptized Christ.

Mark 1:7 And he preached, saying, After me comes He Who is stronger (more powerful and more valiant) than I, the strap of Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to stoop down and unloose.

Mark 1:8 I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

We can see the same thing about Joseph, he knew well that he was the only one person who can interpret dreams but he never showed off as most of us do when we get in some better positions.

Genesis 41:15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it; and I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream and interpret it.

Genesis 41:16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, It is not in me; God [not I] will give Pharaoh a [favorable] answer of peace.

All great men you’ll ever see you’ll discover that they have no pride in them which strengthens them to serve well. Look at Daniel. Daniel 2:26 The king said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and the interpretation of it?

Daniel 2:27 Daniel answered the king, The [mysterious] secret which the king has demanded neither the wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor astrologers can show the king,

Daniel 2:28 But there is a God in heaven Who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that shall be in the latter days (at the end of days). Your dream and the visions in your head upon your bed are these:

There is something you should understand, if you want to stand powerful in your purpose be ready to serve not to be served. We see Christ himself serving all His life but He is one strong person with authority that has ever existed on earth.

This is a question to you, if you have authority like Jesus Christ did, would you use it to serve or to be served!?

Christ never used His power to people but for people and he taught the same lesson to the apostles. Mark 10:42 But Jesus called them to [Him] and said to them, You know that those who are recognized as governing and are supposed to rule the Gentiles (the nations) lord it over them [ruling with absolute power, holding them in subjection], and their great men exercise authority and dominion over them.

Mark 10:43 But this is not to be so among you; instead, whoever desires to be great among you must be your servant,

Mark 10:44 And whoever wishes to be most important and first in rank among you must be slave of all.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to have service rendered to Him, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for (instead of) many.

We see Jesus himself also avoiding this pride. Mark 10:17 And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are essentially and perfectly morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah's kingdom]?

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? There is no one [essentially and perfectly morally] good–except God alone.

You may ask your self whether it is possible for you to run away from GODS placement, yes it’s possible but there is no  peace in such and you’ll be only wasting your time and energy because you’ll be fighting for your self. In fact you’re walking away from only one person who has no failures just because His representatives have failures then you’re walking away from the only “Hope” of your life.

It’s like a train running off from its railway line, how far can it go and what importance can result from that!? This happened to Jonah when he ran away from Gods presence and things worsened to him and others around him. This confirms that we don’t add anything to people unless we are in our right places.

Jonah 1:1 NOW THE word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying,

Jonah 1:2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me. [Gen. 10:11, 12.]

Jonah 1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from being in the presence of the Lord [as His prophet] and went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish [the most remote of the Phoenician trading places then known]. So he paid the appointed fare and went down into the ship to go with them to Tarshish from being in the presence of the Lord [as His servant and minister]. [Gen. 4:16; Job 1:12; 2:7.]

There should be some level of discipline and obedience if you want to keep in tandem with Gods placement for your life. Abraham was told to just go but God never told him where exactly. Genesis 12:1 NOW [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father's house, to the land that I will show you. [Heb. 11:8-10.]

Some of us never wanted to depart from our comfort zones and we think it’s the perfect place to be but you are surely missing the life God has called you to live. The amplified version used this word “For your own advantage” meaning that whatever happens you’re the beneficiary.  Others you’re so stuck with your family and you think you can not be anything without them but Joseph was abandoned by everyone from his family but he fed nations for 7 years. Did his family know about all this!? Do you really think they advised him!?

Do not fear when people leave you all alone because you are not really alone. Abraham had to separate with Lot for the next blessing or move. God reveals something to Abraham after Lot left.

Genesis 13:8 So Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I beg of you, between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are relatives.

Genesis 13:9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, I beg of you, from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right hand, then I will go to the left. Genesis 13:14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had left him, Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

Genesis 13:15 For all the land which you see I will give to you and to your posterity forever. [Acts 7:5.]

Genesis 13:16 And I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth, so that if a man could count the dust of the earth, then could your descendants also be counted. [Gen. 28:14.]

Genesis 13:17 Arise, walk through the land, the length of it and the breadth of it, for I will give it to you.

Genesis 13:18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt among the oaks or terebinths of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and built there an altar to the Lord.

One thing about God even in the darkest days He will still be with you. Lot was still in Sodom but he was rescued before it was burned down. Take a close look at (22).

Genesis 19:16 But while he lingered, the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, for the Lord was merciful to him; and they brought him forth and set him outside the city and left him there.

Genesis 19:17 And when they had brought them forth, they said, Escape for your life! Do not look behind you or stop anywhere in the whole valley; escape to the mountains [of Moab], lest you be consumed.

Genesis 19:18 And Lot said to them, Oh, not that, my lords!

Genesis 19:19 Behold now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your kindness and mercy to me in saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest the evil overtake me, and I die.

Genesis 19:20 See now yonder city; it is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh, let me escape to it! Is it not a little one? And my life will be saved!

Genesis 19:21 And [the angel] said to him, See, I have yielded to your entreaty concerning this thing also; I will not destroy this city of which you have spoken.

Genesis 19:22 Make haste and take refuge there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar [little].

Genesis 19:23 The sun had risen over the earth when Lot entered Zoar.

Genesis 19:24 Then the Lord rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of the heavens.

I know your society might be despising you just by your appearance, size, height, conversation skills, education level, financial status but our God do not care about any of those. And stop determining your identity by what people talk about you. The Lord is ready to give you a nice identity that suits you. He can do a lot just in a moment.

1 Corinthians 1:25 [This is] because the foolish thing [that has its source in] God is wiser than men, and the weak thing [that springs] from God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:26 For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth.

1 Corinthians 1:27 [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame.

1 Corinthians 1:28 And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are,

Apostle Paul advises us about people and false doctrines. 1 Corinthians 2:2 For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:3 And I was in (passed into a state of) weakness and fear (dread) and great trembling [after I had come] among you.

1 Corinthians 2:4 And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],

1 Corinthians 2:5 So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:6 Yet when we are among the full-grown (spiritually mature Christians who are ripe in understanding), we do impart a [higher] wisdom (the knowledge of the divine plan previously hidden); but it is indeed not a wisdom of this present age or of this world nor of the leaders and rulers of this age, who are being brought to nothing and are doomed to pass away.

I have come to realize that the way we define ourselves is not the same way that God defines us.  It’s because we tend to think that we are on our own and everything is only about us, that’s a perfect lie. It’s not about you, it’s not about me, it’s not about self, but about God.

The way Moses saw himself is not the same saw that God saw him. If fact Moses defines him self a very weak person but God shows him that he’s just enough.

Exodus 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.

Exodus 3:11 And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?

Here Moses is trying to put all the responsibility on his shoulders and he asks “who am I!?”  We all get this question several times if something that looks big is placed before us to accomplish it forgetting that we have a strong spirit that works within us. Exodus 3:16 Go, gather the elders of Israel together [the mature teachers and tribal leaders], and say to them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, I have surely visited you and seen that which is done to you in Egypt;

Am one of those people who always try to put up some excuses when it comes for any given task, Moses also formulated some but still God shows him His supremacy. Exodus 4:10 And Moses said to the Lord, O Lord, I am not eloquent or a man of words, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and have a heavy and awkward tongue.

Exodus 4:11 And the Lord said to him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the dumb, or the deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Is it not I, the Lord?

Exodus 4:12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and will teach you what you shall say.

See! It’s not about Moses’ vocabulary or PhD or what but God is ready to give him what to say in the exact time when it is need after placing him there.  Moses was so scared to an extent of requesting God to send another person instead of him. Exodus 4:13 And he said, Oh, my Lord, I pray You, send by the hand of [some other] whom You will [send].

Exodus 4:14 Then the anger of the Lord blazed against Moses; He said, Is there not Aaron your brother, the Levite? I know he can speak well. Also, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be overjoyed.

Exodus 4:15 You must speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you what you shall do.

Exodus 4:17 And you shall take this rod in your hand with which you shall work the signs [that prove I sent you].

Jeremiah was also a youth just like you and me. He was called to be a prophet to nations, I don’t know whether you get what that means. It’s not a minor thing. But the Lord trusts with us greater authority because we are “PETROS”. (A small living rock)  Jeremiah also thought it’s all about him but the Lord tells him that He will facilitate everything for him.

Jeremiah 1:4 Then the word of the Lord came to me [Jeremiah], saying,

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. [Exod. 33:12; Isa. 49:1, 5; Rom. 8:29.]

Jeremiah 1:6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth. [Exod. 4:10; 6:12, 30; I Kings 3:7.]

Jeremiah 1:7 But the Lord said to me, Say not, I am only a youth; for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Jeremiah 1:8 Be not afraid of them [their faces], for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.

Jeremiah 1:9 Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

He doesn’t promise that it’ll be only a fair game or that it’ll be only enjoyments only but He tells us that He will always be with us in each and every situation just like he was with Daniel through all the trials and darkest moments.  See what He tells Jeremiah.  Jeremiah 1:19 And they shall fight against you, but they shall not [finally] prevail against you, for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you.  This is a promise to all of us who believe Him.

There is something in Luke I would like us to look at. This was the perfect day when these people caught the biggest number of fish in their fishing history but it’s the day they left everything down and followed Jesus.

Luke 5:4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [water], and lower your nets for a haul.

Luke 5:5 And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again].

Luke 5:6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish; and as their nets were [at the point of] breaking,

Luke 5:7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and take hold with them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

Luke 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

Luke 5:9 For he was gripped with bewildering amazement [allied to terror], and all who were with him, at the haul of fish which they had made;

Luke 5:10 And so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon (Peter). And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from now on you will be catching men!

Luke 5:11 And after they had run their boats on shore, they left everything and joined Him as His disciples and sided with His party and accompanied Him.

That’s what I mean when I say that “put the most successful thing about your life be the smallest in comparison to the life God has called you to live”. Because it’s bigger than you can ever imagine.

There’s something I always wonder about ABRAHAM. He was totally ready to give up his son as a sacrifice to God. Abraham spent all his life praying to have a child and God kept on promising him and since our God is a promise keeper, he gave him a son.

In his teen age when a parent can also enjoy his/her children then boom the Lord requested him an offering.  That was for Abraham, I know you’ve acquired some good education papers, you have a nice career with a nice repetition and your name sounds great but can you put all that down and decide to volunteer in a non paying activity if God tells you to !?

Can you leave your highly paying job if God wants to put you somewhere !?

Rebellion Leads To Lawlessness!

Rebellion Leads To Lawlessness!

Rebellion is not doing what you are supposed to do according to those responsible for us!

Like not going to school or work when you are supposed to and do not have a legitimate reason for not doing so.

Rebellion is against authority!

Lawlessness is doing what you are not supposed to do according to the law!

Like stealing or lying or cheating, etc.

Lawlessness is against rules and regulations!

We start as rebels against authority because we feel they are oppressing us or holding us back or keeping us from having fun (doing what we want).

We end up lawless because we refuse to conform to the rules and regulations that authority expects us to obey because we feel they are oppressing us or holding us back or keeping us from having fun (doing what we want).

So when JESUS says that some who believe they are Christians and are doing the works of The Kingdom are lawless and will be cast into hell (Matthew 7:21-23) how do we know that is not us?

Philippians 2:13

Philippians 2:13

“It is GOD Who works in you both to will and to do His Good Pleasure.”

“Is your will GOD’s Will, and your natural choices along the line of GOD’s Will? Then life is as natural as breathing. GOD not only expects me to do His Will, but He is in me to do it.”

Oswald Chambers

Apostle Paul tells us that GOD gives us everything we need to do His Will.

Oswald Chambers asks us, are we doing GOD’s Will or our own will?

Psalm 119:11

Psalm 119:11

“Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

The reason so many Christians struggle with sin is that they have not hidden GOD’s Word in their heart.

GOD has told us to! Joshua 1:8-9

JESUS told us that if we did not abide in Him we would be pruned from GOD’s Vineyard, John 15:1-11.

JESUS is The Living Word, John 1:1-3; Hebrews 4:12-13; Revelation 19:11-16.

We cannot abide in Him if we do not know The Word of GOD! “Then JESUS said to the Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed, and you shall know The Truth, and The Truth shall make you free.’” John 8:31-32

What Does Ptverbs Say For Today? Part 18

What Does Proverbs Say For Today? Part 18

Desire

1 Desire = v.t. to long for; to ask for. Syn. Wish, want.

Desirous = adj. full of or governed by desire; covetous; full of longing.

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. The fear of the wicked will come upon him, and the desire of the righteous will be granted. The desire of the righteous is only good, but the expectation of the wicked is wrath. The wicked covet the catch of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit. The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise (sound wisdom) judgment. What is desired in a man is kindness (lit. lovingkindness), and a poor man is better than a liar. The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes. There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it. The desire of the lazy man kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you; and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food. Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not (lit. Will you cause your eyes to fly upon it and it is not?)? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of a miser (lit. one who has an evil eye), nor desire his delicacies; for as he thinks in his heart, so is he. ‘Eat and drink!’ he says to you, but his heart is not with you. Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them; for their heart devises violence, and their lips talk of troublemaking.” (Proverbs 3:13-15; 8:11; 10:24; 11:23; 12:12; 13:4, 12, 19; 18:1; 19:22; 21:10, 20, 25; 23:1-7; 24:1-2)

Desire is neither good nor bad, it’s what and how we desire that is good or bad. We can desire evil, lustful things or we can desire virtuous and healthful things. We can desire out of envy and greed, or we can desire out of compassion and faith. Pure desire results in GOD’s blessings, “For I will cast out the nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither will any man covet your land when you go up to appear before the Lord your GOD three times in the year.” “LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear.” “And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” Exodus 34:24, Psalm 10:17, 1 John 5:15. We are commanded to control our desires, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.” “Where do wars (battles) and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war (battle). Yet (NU, M omit yet) you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” Deuteronomy 5:21, James 4:1-3.
