Did GOD Look Away When JESUS Was
Crucified?
Habakkuk 1:13 “With eyes too pure to see evil You cannot look
at such trouble!”
This is the proof text for those who say that GOD had to look
away from JESUS on the cross as He bore our sins. This was JESUS’ anguish in
the garden, that He was going to be separated from GOD The Father at that
moment, because GOD cannot look on evil!
What!?
This is the whole verse: “With eyes too pure to see evil You
cannot look at such trouble! Why do You look at the treacherous? Why do You
remain silent when a wicked one swallows up those more righteous than him?”
This prophesy is about Chaldea, soon to complete GOD’s judgment against
Jerusalem.
The Bible is full of verses talking about GOD seeing sin,
evil, wickedness, etc.
Psalm 53:1-2 “The fool says in his heart: ‘There is no GOD.’
They are corrupt, commit vile injustice. There is no one who does good. GOD
looks down from the heavens on the children of men, to see if anyone
understands, who seeks after GOD.”
Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of ADONAI are everywhere, observing
the wicked and the good.”
If GOD does not look at evil how does he see us before we are
a Born-Again Christian? When we were sinners were we in stealth mode so that
GOD could not see us (I am being facetious), then one day we understood that we
were a sinner and called out to GOD Who could now see us? We see this mind set
in The Bible, Psalm 10, “…For the wicked one boasts about his soul’s desire. The
greedy one curses, reviling ADONAI…All his thoughts are: ‘there is no GOD.’…He
says in his heart: ‘GOD has forgotten. He hides His face – He will never see.’”
GOD has always looked upon evil, from the moment Lucifer
rebelled and took one third of the heavenly host with him. Isaiah 14:12-17,
Revelation 12:7-12.
The other reason it is not true that GOD looked away from
JESUS on the cross is that GOD The Father and JESUS The Son are One! Even when
JESUS was in the flesh on the earth He was One with The Father, and they cannot
be separated! “The One Who sent Me is with Me, He has not left Me alone,
because I always do what is pleasing to Him.” John 8:29. Study John 14:6-11,
17:20-26
Some might say, “What about on the cross when JESUS cried out:
‘My GOD, My GOD, why have You abandoned Me?’” as recorded in Matthew 27:46 and
Mark 15:34? Well JESUS in the garden just before His arrest prayed fervently, “My
Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me! Yet not My Will, but as
You Will.” Matthew 26:39, Mark 14:36, Luke 22:42. He was the Son of Man and He
knew what was going to happen to Him, He understood the rejection and the
physical pain He was going to suffer. This was His final temptation and He obeyed
knowing the cost. Hebrews 4:14-16, “…For we do not have a kohen gadol (High
Priest) who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One Who has been
tempted in all the same ways – yet without sin…”
His last Words as recorded in Luke 23:46 and John 19:30 are, “Father,
into Your hands I entrust My SPIRIT!” and “It is finished!” Obedient from before creation until His death
on the cross; it was The Father’s and The Son’s anguish to suffer the sins of
humanity! 1 Peter 1:17-21 “…but with precious blood, like that of a lamb
without defect or spot, the blood of Messiah. He was chosen before the
foundation of the world,…”
Anyone who believes that GOD The Father and GOD The Son were
separated for even a moment do not understand Who GOD is. There is One True GOD,
JEHOVAH, Who is The Father, The Son, The SPIRIT. If you do not understand what
that means then read Genesis 1:1-2 and John 1:1-4. From Genesis to Revelation
The Bible teaches us that there is One inseparable GOD in Whom, by Whom and for
Whom all things exist, Revelation 4:11.
Yes, GOD is triune, yet He is One GOD, ELOHIM is a plural
form of GOD, but He is not three persons or individual identities. “In the
beginning GOD (ELOHIM) created the heavens and the earth…Then GOD (ELOHIM)
said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness!...’” Genesis 1:1, 26a.
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear O Israel, The LORD our GOD, The LORD is
One.” In Hebrew: “Shema Israel, ADONAI ELOHEINU, ELOHIM Echad.” or “Hear O
Israel, The LORD is our GOD, The LORD alone.” Echad = one or composite oneness.

1 John 5:6-8 “MESSIAH YESHUA is The One Who came by water and
blood – not by water only, but by water and blood. The SPIRIT is The One Who Testifies,
because The SPIRIT is The Truth. For there are Three that Testify – The SPIRIT,
the water, and the blood – and these three are One.”
