Psalm 119:65-72
Psalm 119 is about The Word of GOD, almost every sentence in
the 176 verses is about GOD’s Word. This section represented by the Hebrew
letter Tet is verses 65-72.
:67 “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now I keep Your
Word.”
:71 “It is Good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may
learn Your Statutes.”
So what is the Psalmist saying here? That after he went
astray (sinned) he was afflicted by GOD; then he repented and started obeying
GOD’s Word! The affliction was Good for Him to keep him in GOD’s Word.
“You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to
Your Word. Teach me Good Judgment and Knowledge, for I believe Your
Commandments. Before I was afflicted I went
astray, but now I keep Your Word. You are Good and do Good; teach me Your
Statutes. The proud have smeared me with a lie, but I will keep your Precepts
with my whole heart. Their heart is insensible, but I delight in Your Law. It is
Good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes. The Law
of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver.” NKJV
In context that is exactly what the Psalmist is saying. GOD
afflicts us to draw us to Himself and He afflicts us to keep us on the straight
and difficult road of life. JESUS said, “Do not think that I came to bring
Peace on earth. I did not come to bring Peace but a sword. For I came to set a
man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law, and a man’s enemies will be those of his own
household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and
he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. He who does not take
his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose
it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:34-39
If you do not read The Bible for yourself than you will believe
anything someone else tells you that The Bible says, even if it is wrong. That
could cost you your Salvation!
It is important for us to read and study our Bible. It is
important for us to share what we learn with other Christians and
non-Christians; discussing what we learn from The Bible causes us to reflect on
what we are learning from The Bible and to seek GOD so that we know we are
telling The Truth about GOD and His Kingdom.
