Revelation Chapter 20
Introduction:
The
narrative between chapter 19 and chapter 20 is not broken by the chapter
division; the battle of Armageddon is finished and the anti-christ and false
prophet are cast into the lake of fire and brimstone. It is the end of human
reign over the earth and the beginning of CHRIST’s Reign over the earth from
Jerusalem for 1000 years. The devil is bound in a pit for the 1000 years and
after the 1000 years he is loosed for the battle of Gog and Magog. After the
earth is destroyed by fire there is the Great White Throne Judgment where all
the dead were judged by the books and those not found in The LAMB’s Book of
Life are cast into eternal torment in the lake of fire with death and hell;
where the anti-christ, the false prophet and the devil already are. The theme
of these chapters is continued in chapters 21 and 22.
Habakkuk
2:1-4
:1-3 Then I saw an angel coming
down from Heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his
hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and
satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless
pit and shut him up and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the
nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things
he must be released for a little while (2 Peter 2:4-11).
:4-6 I saw thrones and they sat on
them and judgment was committed to them. Then the souls of those who had been beheaded
for their witness to JESUS and for The Word of GOD, who had not worshipped the
anti-christ or his image and had not received the mark on their foreheads or on
their hands; they Lived and Reigned with CHRIST for the thousand years. The
rest of the dead did not Live again until the thousand years were finished.
This is The First Resurrection (The Rapture). Blessed and Holy is he who has part
in The First Resurrection; over such the second death has no power, but they
shall be Priests of GOD and of CHRIST and shall Reign with Him a thousand years
(Psalm 72:5, 11-14; Proverbs 23:17-18; Isaiah 61:4-9; Daniel 7:9-14; Joel 3:14-17;
John 14:19-24; Romans 8:12-17; 1
Corinthians 6:1-10).
:7-10 Now when the thousand years
have expired, satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive
the nations (again?) which are in the four corners of the earth. Gog and Magog,
to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They
went up on the breath of the earth and surrounded the camp of The Saints and
The Beloved City (Jerusalem).
Fire came down from Heaven and
devoured them!
The devil who deceived them was cast
into the lake of fire and brimstone where the anti-christ and the false prophet
are; they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Ezekiel 38:1-7, 39:1-7;
Matthew 25:31-33, 41, 46; Revelation 21:8)!
:11 Then I saw a Great White
Throne and Him Who sat on it, from Whose face the earth and heavens fled away
(Revelation 21:1); there was no place found for them (2 Peter 3:5-13).
:12 I saw the dead, small and
great, standing before GOD, books were opened and another Book was opened which
is The Book of Life. The dead were judged according to their works, by the
things which were written in the books (Matthew 10:25-26; Hebrews 4:13).
:13The sea gave up the dead who
were in it and death and hades (Revelation 1:18) gave up the dead who were in
them; they were judged, each one according to his works (Proverbs 24:11-12; 1
Corinthians 3:8-15; Revelation 2:21-23).
:14-15 Then death and hades were
cast into the lake of fire, this is the second death (1 Corinthians 15:20-28;
Revelation 21:8). Anyone not found written in The Book of Life was cast into
the lake of fire (Matthew 13:41-43; Jude :5-8; Revelation 14:9-11).
