Matthew 6:5-15

Matthew 6:5-15

Introduction:

“And JESUS went about all Galilee teaching in their Synagogues, preaching The Gospel of The Kingdom and Healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His Fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics; and He Healed them all. Great multitudes followed Him – from Galilee and Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and beyond Jordan. And seeing the multitudes He went up on a mountain and when He was seated His disciples came to Him; then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:” Matthew 4:23-5:2

:5-8 “When you pray you should not be like the pretenders (hypocrites), for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people; truly I say to you, they have their reward. When you pray go into your room and shut the door, when you pray to your Father in Heaven in private, your Father in Heaven Who sees in Secret will Reward you openly. (2 Kings 4:32-32-35; Acts 9:36-43) When you pray do not use vain repetitions as the unbelievers do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them for your Father in Heaven knows the things you need before you ask Him.” (1 Kings 18:25-26; Proverbs 18:27-28; Ecclesiastes 5:1-7; Matthew 6:25-34; Romans 8:26-28)

:9-13 “so pray like this, Our Father in Heaven, Your Name (JEHOVAH) is Holy (Malachi 1:11); Your Kingdom (Authority) come, Your Will (Power, Matthew 26:42; Philippians 2:12-14) be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Ephesians 5:1-21); give us today our daily bread (Deuteronomy 8:1-3; Proverbs 30:7-9; Matthew 6:25-34); forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us (Matthew 18:21-22; Ephesians 4:30-32; 1 John 3:16); do not lead us into temptation (Psalm 19:12-13; James 1:12-18 [LSD]) but deliver us from the evil one (John 17:15; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13; 2 Peter 2:4-11; for Yours is The Kingdom and The Power and The Glory Forever. Amen.” (1 Chronicles 29:10-12; 1 Peter 5:10-11; Revelation 1:4-8, 4:8-11, 5:12)

:14-15 “For if you Forgive people their sins, your Father in Heaven Will Forgive you your sins. But if you do not Forgive people their sins, neither will Your Father in Heaven Forgive you your sins!” (Matthew 18:21-35; Mark 11:20-26; Colossians 3:12-14)

The “LORD’s Prayer” is not a prayer to recite, which is how many people, even non-believers pray it. I am not saying to not just recite it, I am saying to pray it from your soul, from what is happening in your life right now. Prayer is not a tool to get GOD’s attention to what we need and want. It should be a relationship, a fellowship between us and GOD our Heavenly Father.

There are only two points in “The LORD’s Prayer” that JESUS emphasized, worship of GOD in verses 9 and 13 “Our Father in Heaven, Holy is Your Name…For Yours is The Kingdom and The Power and The Glory Forever.” JESUS opened and closed with Worship! And Forgiveness in verses 12 and 14-15, “And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” “For if you Forgive people their sins, your Father in Heaven Will Forgive you your sins. But if you do not Forgive people their sins, neither will Your Father in Heaven Forgive you your sins!” Immediately after He finished He emphasized Forgiveness.

If we expect GOD to hear our prayers we must Worship Him and we must Forgive everyone. (Psalm 66:1-5, 16-20; John 20:19-23) When we come before JEHOVAH GOD it should always be in Humility and Honor to Him with a Pure heart, you cannot have unforgiveness and have a pure heart. To have a Pure heart you must Love your enemies and pray for those who spitefully use you (Matthew 5:43-48) and you can only do that if you forgive them!
