 How is it that we can be praising God for His provisions and blessings and then the next moment be afraid and broken because of fear or anxiousness?

Elijah saw, experienced and moved in the power of the Almighty but as soon as Jezebel threatened his life, he ran away....afraid.

He was a mighty man of God but was human, the same as you and I.

And he allowed the enemy to sit at his table and it changed his focus and thoughts.

How often do we do that? We understand who God is, we see what He IS doing and yet when we hear a report, when we see the world failing, when we understand the atrocity, the evil...we run in fear.

And we forget so quickly all He has done.

What we need to understand though is that the war has already been won! But there are battles to be fought, yet we should not tremble in fear, because we already know the outcome.

Yes there are dark days, yes there is hurting, loss, pain, division, anger and strife.

But God... we need to understand Him on a deeper more intimate level.

We need to know that the joy of the Lord IS our strength. When we fully understand and daily walk in the knowledge that He has overcome the world (and our thoughts) and we are seated in the presence of our enemies, YET we keep our gaze on Him who is seated with us, then that changes everything!

Stop looking at the world and all it's lack and void and pain.

Instead look to our Father and ALL He is, ALL He has done and ALL He is doing...and rejoice!!

With religion at the point we believe we have to start the work of conforming and acceptance. The First Resurrection!

 

I’ve heard Pastor’s teaching that the First Resurrection is when we become a believer. When we give our life to JESUS and are buried in baptism we are raised to new life we are raised from death. The Scriptures teach this principle, that when we become a believer that we die to ourself, to sin, to the world and we are given a New Life; that we are raised with CHRIST from death to Life; and water baptism represents this.

 

JESUS is the Firstborn from the dead; when we are born again we become a new Creation, John 11:24 (11:17-27), Acts 26:23 (26:19-23), Colossians 1:18 (1:9-18), 1 Corinthians 15:20,23 (15:20-28), Revelation 1:5 (4-8).

But we are still alive in our natural body, 2 Corinthians 5:17 (5:14-21), Romans 8:10 (8:1-11), Galatians 2:20 (11-21).

Our resurrection is not spiritual but spirit, soul and body and that happens at the end of the age, I Corinthians 15:52 (15:50-58), 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (4:9-18), 2 Peter 3:10 (3:10-13), John 3:2 (2:28-3:3), Revelation 20:4-6.

 

The only place in The Bible where the First Resurrection is mentioned is in Revelation; where the angel that CHRIST assigned to give His Revelation to John reveals it as the last event of the Seventh Trumpet Day. “

In the beginning GOD created everything that exists! He created everything that is in the Heavens, He created everything that is in the earth and He created everything that is in the seas. On the sixth day the last thing GOD created was mankind, He created mankind in His own image and He created them male and female. To create them He formed dust of the earth into the form He wanted mankind to have and then He breathed into that form His breath, which is the breath of Life and mankind was a living spirit, soul and body. GOD called them Adam and placed them in His Garden in Eden.  GOD did not want Adam to be alone so He created from the ground every living animal; then GOD brought them all to Adam to see what he would call them; but there was no companion for Adam. So GOD put Adam to sleep and took from him a rib. GOD took Adam’s rib and formed a female. When Adam awoke he saw the female and said, “Woo-man, at last! “This is now flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone and I shall call her Woman.” This is why a man is to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they are to become one flesh.”

 

The statement for Genesis 2:24, “This is why a man is to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they are to become one flesh.” is the institution of Marriage, the relationship between GOD and a husband and a wife to fulfill GOD’s purpose for humanity. Marriage is a covenant and each participant is all in, marriage is a three way relationship where each one is committed one hundred percent. As a Christian we become One with The Father, One with The Son and One with The SPIRIT – GOD is One and in CHRIST JESUS we are One with GOD. Now in Marriage a Christian man and a Christian woman become one as husband and wife so that they are now one in the flesh and One in The SPIRIT.

 

GOD is the initiator of the marriage covenant and when a man and a woman enter into it as a husband and wife where they become one flesh they are restored to GOD’s original creation of mankind as one being.

 

A common misconception is that GOD made Eve from Adam’s rib because none of the animals were a good helper for Adam. While it is true that none of the animals were a good helper for Adam, it is wrong to believe that GOD created Eve separately. He had already created Eve when He made Adam He had made them in His image as male and female (Genesis 1:27). He only separated them by taking Adam’s rib and formed her and made them two separate beings; in marriage He reunites us as one so that we can fulfill His purpose in the earth as it is in Heaven!

 

This is why GOD makes such a big deal about fidelity in marriage! It is a covenant between GOD the husband and wife! “In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, so that even if some of them do not believe the Word, they will be won over by your conduct, without your says anything…the same way Sarah obeyed Abraham, honoring him as her lord. You are her daughters, if you do what is right and do not succumb to fear. You husbands, likewise, conduct your married lives with understanding. Although your wife may be weaker physically, you should respect her as a fellow-heir of the gift of life. IF YOU DON’T YOUR PRAYERS WILL BE BLOCKED.” 1 Peter 3:1-7 (Study Ephesians 5:21-6:4 on the marriage and family structure.)

 

The husband and wife may be a couple physically but they are one in the flesh (spirit, soul, body) according to Genesis 2:21-25. That is why GOD is against every sexual sin; fornication, adultery, homosexuality and bestiality! Every sexual activity physically and emotionally ties people together. Every sexual sin destroys the marriage covenant! “…Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for The LORD, and The LORD for the body…Shall I take the members of CHRIST ad make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!...But he who is joined to The LORD is One Spirit with Him. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body…” 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, study the whole passage. “Marriage is honorable in every respect; and in particular, sex within marriage is pure. But GOD will indeed punish fornicators and adulterers.” Hebrews 13:4

Sometimes we desire to do more than the average person- to stand out in the crowd- to be the most faithful- the best at what we do- to be worth more than most in the eyes of people- to be famous, and make the most impact. What we don’t realize is that most of the time in the Bible and in history, the people who made the most impact were lowly, humble, not searching for personal gain, and only seeking to make Jesus famous. To glorify His name.

Think of the apostles- they were not out to make themselves look great. Jesus said, “he who is least among you all is the one who is great” (Luke 9:48b). The apostles were frowned upon by the Pharisees, the Jews, and even some of the Gentiles. They were not excepted by many people. But they still preached the gospel- even when people fought against it, and they made a huge impact for Christ, and brought many people to Him.

Our desire shouldn’t be to make ourself look greater, because all this will fade away. But we need to turn whatever longing that is in our heart to be great, to Jesus; to start longing to show others how great Jesus is. His majesty and glory no words can describe! He is so good! Compared to Him we amount to nothing, as long as we follow our own ways. It doesn’t matter if those serving God get rewarded and looked upon as great in this world. It’s the treasures in Heaven that count. And in order for our treasures to be in Heaven, our heart needs to be towards Jesus and not ourselves.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-21:

19“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and ruste destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

In the end, being great in this world is so shallow. Even if you make it to the top, would that satisfy you? There is always going to be someone who is better at what you do than you are, but what you do and accomplish in this world does not define who you are. God defines who you are. What matters is that we live our life to glorify God and lift Him higher. And our calling on this earth, one of the very reasons we were created, is to love God, and through loving on Him, glorify Him and share His goodness with others.

Those who made the most impact for Christ were:

Brave/bold, Humble, Obedient, Trusting, Abiding (John 15), Persecuted, Went through difficult times, True, Didn’t seek their own glory but God’s. They were Persistent- didn’t give up, and they set a higher standard.

A Study of Acts 27:1 – 28:10

 

Acts 27 is the first half of Paul’s trip from imprisonment in Caesarea to imprisonment in Rome. With Paul is Luke and Aristarchus a Macedonian from Thessalonica; Julius an officer of the Emperor’s Regiment, the ship’s owner and captain and 270 ships crew, Roman guards, prisoners and passengers, a total of 276 persons.

 

The first part of the trip is difficult sailing and after much time had been lost because of contrary winds Paul advised that they should winter where they were, proclaimed that they would suffer loss of property and life. But those in charge decided to go on.

 

They get a favorable wind and take their chance to get to Crete where there is better wintering ports. But they get caught in a large storm that blows off the land and carries them about for 14 days. They have to get rid of everything that weights them down including the ships sailing equipment.

 

On the fourteenth day Paul reminded everyone that he had recommended that they not sail on and He told them of his angelic visitation and that they would had to run aground on an island but by GOD’s Grace no life would be lost, only the ship. That night the ship’s crew realized the waters were getting shallower and they took readings, seeing that they must be close to some land they anchored the ship. The crew then decided to abandon the ship and it passengers, Paul warned the Romans and they stopped the ship’s crew.

 

At sunrise Paul encouraged everyone on board to eat and fortify themselves for no one would be lost. They saw a beach and cut the anchors and made for it but they ran aground on a sand bar and the ship stuck fast. As the stern was breaking up the Romans wanted to kill the prisoners so they would not escape, but the officer wanting to save Paul stopped them. He ordered everyone who could swim to jump and swim ashore and for the rest to use whatever floated to make their way to shore. No one from the ship was lost.

 

The study of this chapter is the result: Paul proclaimed (prophesied) that if they continued their trip there would be loss of property and life and those in charge ignored his warning. By this time everyone on the ship would have know that Paul and his companions were Messianic Jews. Then after two weeks of being caught in a huge storm Paul tells them of his angelic visitation and no one would die. Even then some doubted so the ship’s crew decided to abandon the ship but Paul intervened and eventually everyone was saved.

 

By this time you would think that virtually everyone on the ship would repent of their sins and become believers in JESUS, but there is no evidence of that in Luke’s writing of this event. Yet in chapter 28 there is a revival on the island where they were ship wrecked because Paul did not die after being bitten by a poisonous snake, then he prayed and the Governor’s father was healed of a fever and dysentery, and the island’s residents honored Paul and his two companions. They were there for three months.

 

So were those who were with Paul and his companions for over four months changed? Absolutely, did they become believers? I’m sure some did but at the time it did not make enough difference in their behavior that Luke felt he should write in it his narrative of the events. After about a week on the island all the people brought their sick to Paul for healing and honored him and his companions.

 

What does this say about humanity, especially our society today? JESUS said the road to destruction is wide and the way is easy and there are many who find it; the road to Eternal Life is narrow and the way is hard and few find it. Most people are self interested and most people will not be saved no matter what they see, hear and experience. It’s so random who will and who will not believe and be saved that we must share with everyone we can.
