2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not
ignorant of his devices.
1. One of the issues of talking about Satan is to not give him too much
credit, yet, not ignore the fact that he still has power, so that we cannot
discredit him either.
2. When it comes to making wise choices, we should at least consider what
each choice is going to cost us.
3. Sometimes it would be a good perspective to see our choices with price
tags on them or like food items, having a warning label on them, like “this
choice may cost and cause..”
4. If we did it would certainly make us rethink our choices.
5. Just look at that word “devices:” it comes from the Greek word “noema”
which has to do with strategies and mind games.
6. The implication here is that Satan has strategies, mind games and
devices to take advantage of us and this is clearly the thought right here in
this scripture.
7. His desire is to suggest to your mind through his thoughts, his
strategies and ways to get you to make a choice that will not in the end turn
out good for you.
8. Satan is not the cause of every problem in your life, this should be
said, but he is a powerful enemy with a great influence when it comes to our
thinking.
9. The first word in our text is “lest:” this is a word of permission,
Satan can only overpower us if we give place to him and what he says.
10 the verse before this one is about forgiveness and it suggests if we do
not choose to forgive, then we open the door to Satan to take advantage of us
through his devices.
