Revelation Chapter 10

Revelation Chapter 10

Introduction:

Chapter 10 is out of place in the sequence of events as portrayed in chapters 6-12; in chapter 6 we have six of the seven seals of the scroll that only The Lamb of GOD can open; chapter seven has the one hundred forty-four thousand Hebrew men who are sealed with the Name of GOD and great multitudes of heavenly and earthly creatures worshipping GOD; chapter eight has the seventh seal and four of the trumpets sounded and three woes declared; chapter nine has the fifth trumpet which is the first woe and the sixth trumpet; chapter ten is about an angel with a book for John to eat so he can continue to prophesy about the End of Times; chapter 11 is about the two witnesses (which might be part of the sixth trumpet because they are the second woe) and the seventh trumpet; chapter 12 is historical in scope of the relationship of GOD, the devil, Israel and The MESSIAH. So we see that the way the chapters are divided has events overlapping, all the seals should be in one chapter; the trumpets should be in one chapter; the angel with the book and the two witnesses could be in one chapter. But they were not shown to John that way so you cannot expect to interpret these evens as strictly chronological.

Chapter 10  is about a mighty angel who had a small book open in his hand, he swore by GOD that there should be no more delay but that in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel the Mystery of GOD would be finished as GOD had declared to His servants the prophets. John heard the voices of seven thunders but also heard a voice from Heaven telling him to seal up the words of the seven thunders and not to write them. Then John was told to take the small book and eat it; that it would be sweet in his mouth but bitter in his stomach; then he was told he “must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues and kings.”

:1 I saw still another mighty angel coming down from Heaven, clothed with a cloud; and a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. Some believe this is a description of CHRIST, maybe so, these descriptions are applied to CHRIST in other places (Ezekiel 1:26-28; Revelation 1:15-16, 4:3); but in 2 Corinthians 11:14 we are reminded that the devil can appear as an angel of light. So far in Revelation we see that stars can be angels or angelic beings. In Revelation 5:2 John sees a strong angel; the original Greek word for strong and mighty is the same. So “another mighty angel” should make it clear that John saw an angel ( I checked six versions and they all said “another mighty angel”). This is why it is important to read, study and meditate on the Scriptures, The Bible always makes itself clear, but if you are not familiar how the original language was translated to the currant language you can make a mistake. The HOLY SPIRIT, Whom JESUS said would teach us and instruct us and remind us of what He said will guide your understanding of the Scriptures if you seek and ask for His help.

:2-4 He had a little book open in his hand; and he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land and cried with a loud voice as when a lion roars. When he cried out seven thunders uttered their voices (Psalm 29:3 says GOD’s voice is like thunder; but Revelation says that seven thunders [angelic beings] spoke), now when the seven thunders uttered their voices I was about to write; but I heard a voice from Heaven saying to me: “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered and do not write them (in Daniel 8:26, 12:4, 9 talk of Daniel’s visions being shut up until their time, Revelation reveals their time even though we are still waiting for the greater part to happen).”

:5-7 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and the land raised up his right hand to Heaven and swore by Him Who Lives Forever and Ever (Daniel 12:7, this is where we get the last three and a half years of the Great Tribulation), Who created Heaven and the things that are in it; the earth and the things that are in it; and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer. But in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound (Revelation 11:15), The Mystery of GOD would be finished as He declared to His servants the prophets.

:8-11 Then the voice which I heard from Heaven, spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.” So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” He said to me, “Take and eat it (Ezekiel 2:9-3:4); and it will make your stomach bitter but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.” Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth (Psalm 19:7-11; Jeremiah 15:16); but when I had eaten it my stomach became bitter. And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues and kings (John received the rest of the prophesy by eating the little book).”
