Isaiah 44:21-45:25
JEHOVAH’s
Sovereignty!
JEHOVAH speaks through Isaiah to
Cyrus, a man He chooses before he is born to end the seventy years of
punishment of Israel for their four hundred ninety years of disobedience. If
you though JEHOVAH showing His Power through the Pharoh in Moses’ time was
showing His Sovereignty, think about this. Before he is born, JEHOVAH is
calling Cyrus to be an international leader who will conquer the mightiest
nation on the earth at that time so that Cyrus can set Israel free to return to
Israel and Jerusalem! JEHOVAH then speaks through His servants in that day to
bring to Cyrus’ attention what JEHOVAH has declared about him. (Jeremiah
25:12-14; Isaiah44:24-45:25 Ezra 1:1-4)
JEHOVAH declares His Sovereignty
over Israel: 44:21-23.
JEHOVAH declares Who He Is:
44:24-27;
“Redeemer,
forms us in the womb,
makes all things,
stretches out the heavens,
spreads abroad the earth,
frustrates the signs of the
babblers,
drives diviners mad,
turns wise men backward and makes
their knowledge foolishness;
confirms the words of His servant
(prophet),
preforms the counsel of His
messengers (angels),
says to Jerusalem ‘You shall be
inhabited.’
says to the cities of Judah ‘you
shall be built and I will raise up her waste places.’
says to the deep (oceans) ‘Be dry!
And I Will dry up your rivers.’”
JEHOVAH says of Cyrus (who will
not rule for about 150 years): 44:28-45:14;
”He is My shepherd and he
shall perform My Pleasure, saying to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be built,’ and to
the Temple, ‘Your foundation shall be laid.’
Thus says JEHOVAH to His anointed,
to Cyrus whose right hand I have strengthened–to subdue nations before him and
loose the armor of kings,
to open for him the double doors
so that the gates will not be shut!
‘I Will go before you and (I
Will trample down the walls or I Will humble the great ones of the earth)
make the crooked places (mountains) straight;
I will break in pieces the gates
of bronze and cut the bars of iron.
I Will give you the treasures of
darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, JEHOVAH,
Who call you by your name, AM The GOD of Israel.
For Jacob’s, My servants sake and
Israel My elect, I Have Called you by your name; I have named you, though you
have not known Me.
I Am JEHOVAH and there is
no other!
There is no GOD besides Me!
I Will gird you though you have not
known Me, that they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there
is none besides Me!
I Am JEHOVAH and there
is no other!
I form the light and create
darkness,
I make Peace and create calamity!
I, JEHOVAH, do all these things.
I, JEHOVAH, have created it!”
“Thus says JEHOVAH, The HOLY One of Israel and his Maker; ‘ask Me
of things to come concerning My sons (Israel); and concerning the Work of My
hands (do) you command Me?
I have made the earth and Created
man on it!
I–My hands–have stretched out the
heavens and all their host I have Commanded!
I Have raised him up in
righteousness and I Will direct all his ways; and he shall build My City and
let My exiles go free, not for price or reward, says JEHOVAH of hosts!’”
“Thus says JEHOVAH: ‘The labor of
Egypt and the merchandise of Cush and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come
over to you and they shall be yours; they shall walk behind you, they shall
come over in chains and they shall bow down to you. They will make supplication
to you saying, ‘Surely GOD is in you and there is no other; there is no
other GOD.’”
Isaiah declares JEHOVAH’s Sovereignty:
45:15-17;
“Truly You are GOD Who hide
Yourself!
GOD of Israel, Savior!”
All who make idols will be
ashamed, disgraced and confused.
“Israel shall be Saved by JEHOVAH
with an Everlasting Salvation; you shall not be ashamed or disgraced Forever
and Ever!”
JEHOVAH speaks for Himself: 45:18-19;
“For thus says JEHOVAH, Who
Created the heavens,
Who is GOD Who Formed the earth
and made it, Who has Established it, Who did not Create it in vain (Or empty,
a waste), Who formed it to be inhabited: ‘I Am JEHOVAH and there
is no other!
I have not spoken in secret, in a
dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, “Seek Me, in vain
(Or in a waste place)”; I JEHOVAH speak Righteousness, I declare things
that are Right!’”
JEHOVAH speaks to Israel about idolatry:
45:20-21;
“Assemble yourselves and come;
draw near together, you who have escaped from the nations. They have no
knowledge who carry the wood of their carved image and pray to a god that
cannot Save! Tell and bring forth your case; yes, let them take counsel
together. Who had declared this from
ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I,
JEHOVAH? There is no other GOD besides Me, a Just GOD and a Savior; there
is none besides Me!”
JEHOVAH’s call to be Saved:
45:22-25;
“Look to Me and be Saved all you
ends of the earth!
For I Am GOD and there
is no other!
I have Sworn by Myself; the word
has gone out of My mouth in Righteousness and shall not return!
That to Me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall take as oath; he shall say, ‘Surely in JEHOVAH I have
Righteousness and Strength (Or Only in JEHOVAH are all Righteousness and
Strength).
To Him men shall come and
all shall be ashamed who are incensed against Him!
In JEHOVAH all descendants of
Israel shall be Justified and shall Glory.”
