Christ’s Commission to the Church!
Luke 24:44-49, Mark 16:14-18 (When
Jesus first appeared to the disciples after His resurrection).
Matthew 28:16-20 (When Jesus appeared
to the Eleven in Galilee).
Acts 1:4-8 (When Jesus ascended).
“Later He appeared to the eleven as
they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart,
because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. Then He said to them, ‘these are the words which I spoke to you while
I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in
the Law of Moses and the Prophets and
the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they
might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He
said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to
suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and
remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at
Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of
these things. Behold, I send the Promise
of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued
with power from on high.’ And He said to
them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who
believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be
condemned. And these signs will follow
those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with
new tongues; they {in their hands}
will take up serpents; and it they drink anything deadly, it will by no means
hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.’”
“Then the eleven disciples went away
into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but
some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke
to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given Me in heaven and on earth. Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”
“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart
from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said, ‘you have heard from Me; for John
truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not
many days from now.’ Therefore, when
they had come together, they asked Him, saying, ‘LORD, will You at this time restore the Kingdom to Israel?’ And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to
know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in
all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’”
