HE has Given US a Choice
“The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil.” (Gen 2:9) “And the Lord God
commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in
the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’” (Gen 2:16-17)
From the very beginning, GOD has always given us the choice to “choose
this day whom you will serve” (Josh 24:15). In the garden of Eden,
GOD presented life and death before Adam and Eve with the two trees in the
midst of the garden. In Moses’ day, he said, “…I have set before
you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and
your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and
holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may
dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to
Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” (Deut 30:19-20) And in Paul’s
day, he said, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die,
but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will
live.” (Rom 8:13)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Heb 13:8)
The same GOD who spoke to Adam and Eve, Moses, and Paul is saying the same
thing to us today, “choose this day whom you will serve” (Josh
24:15). We must understand that GOD is not an American, and HE doesn’t
think like us or do things the way we think HE should. HE is GOD ALMIGHTY,
KING of Kings, and HE “works all things according to the counsel of
his will” (Eph 1:11).
HIS desire and passion has always been to give us life and, in HIS infinite
wisdom, HE knows the only way to give true life is to give us a choice
because without choice, there is no life, only robotic design. The great
risk of GOD is that in HIS indescribable love, HE created man with a will
to choose whom he would love. HIS glory is in the fact that HE gave man a
choice of whom he would follow, but HIS great suffering and sadness is that
man so often chooses the enemy, and self, over HIM because man “loved
the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil.” (John
3:19)
All of us have been affected by the American lifestyle and ideologies that
lead to darkness rather than light. During this time, let’s take the
opportunity to recalibrate our lifestyle to be compatible with GOD’s will.
In so doing, we will be choosing life, the life GOD has always intended for
HIS people. HIS ocean of love is inviting us to choose life so we can
participate in HIS great promises for us and this land, therefore
choose life and obey the ONE who gives it!
