JESUS and Water Baptism!

 

John baptized people as a sign of repentance of their sins and a returning to GOD.

 

JESUS had no sins to repent of! JESUS was the Lamb of GOD who was going to take away the sins of the world. So why was He water baptized by John? JESUS’ baptism by John was not a baptism of repentance but it was an announcement of being set apart to GOD. When JESUS was baptized He publicly, visibly received The HOLY SPIRIT and a voice from Heaven said, “You are My Son, whom I Love, I am well pleased with You!”

 

JESUS had not yet done anything to show who He was, except not give into temptation and sin.

 

Unlike those who were baptized into a baptism of repentance by John and then JESUS’ disciples before His crucifixion we are water baptized after we have been washed in the Blood of JESUS and our sins are forgiven and our punishment removed by JESUS. Our baptism is a baptism of a good conscience showing that we understand that we have been set apart to GOD by JESUS’ life, death and resurrection and the infilling of His HOLY SPIRIT.
