Presumption by Chris Leeper

Presumption

by Chris Leeper

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9

Presumption is a nasty sin. You presume you know when you don't. You live in arrogant ignorance. You think GOD is on your side when HE is not. You presume on the LORD's promises without realizing they are contingent on your obedience to HIS Word.

Presuming is sincere, bold, and confident blindness. It stands right next to hypocrisy in claiming it knows, when it doesn't live the reality of an obedient son or daughter.

"The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life. Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud." - Proverbs 16:17-19

The only way to defeat presumption is humility; recognizing you can't see everything and need to trust in ANOTHER who can. Walking in humility, listening to others, and most of all, reading and obeying the Word of GOD is our only hope of overcoming presumption.

The entirety of the Christian life is intended to be lived solely clinging to the LORD.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

We are not built to face this world alone. We were designed by our MAKER to be filled with HIM who then makes us more than conquers. We must forsake our ways, our presumptions, and yield our entire lives to the grace, love, Word, and ways of the LORD.

It's time! Let's do it together.

Prayer Focus

·  I repent for making You a god of my own imagination assuming that my ways and desires are Yours instead of making Your ways and desires mine.

·  I repent for presuming that I am right while not living as an obedient son/daughter.

·  Give me a desire (or greater desire) to walk in humility, listening to others. Give me a passionate desire to read and obey Your Word.
