1 John Chapter 1
1:1-4 Introduction: In this
epistle Paul does not introduce himself so it must have been delivered by
someone who knew John to people who knew John.
:1-3 Personal testimony – John
knew JESUS in the flesh as one of the 12 JESUS called to be His disciples (Matthew 10:1-4).
He also knew JESUS in the supernatural by his experience with Peter and James
on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9). Then John knew JESUS in the
SPIRIT after His Resurrection (Mark 16:14-18), so when John talks about JESUS
he knew JESUS more than most in His day and more than all of us since.
:4 It is important for us as
Believers in JESUS to understand what John, Paul, Peter, James and Jude wrote
and how that applies to our life!
1:5-7 GOD is Light!
:5 No darkness (Psalm 139:1-12;
Daniel 2 ;20-23; John 1:1-5; 1 Timothy 6:16).
:6 Do not lie (Psalm 107:10-16; Matthew
6:19-24; John 3:16-21).
:7 Walk in Light (Isaiah 2:5,
60:1-3; Matthew 5:13-16; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews 9:11-15).
1:8-10 Do not sin!
:8-9 Do not lie (Proverbs 28:13;
Isaiah 1:18-20; Acts 2:38-39)
:10 GOD does not lie! Do not make
Him a liar! (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:1-3; 1 John 5:10 )
