“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locus to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I Will hear from Heaven, and Will Forgive their sin and Heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

 

For the most part when Christians read or quote this passage of Scripture they only read or quote verse 14, and the emphasis is on GOD’s part. The emphasis should be on GOD’s part only when the two verses are read or quoted together. It’s GOD’s action that causes us to come before Him in humility and prayer to seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. Only then does He forgive us and heal our land.

 

Also, most Christians think that by praying according to this pattern GOD’s response will be quick. It will not be quick because humility is not something we can put on like a prayer shawl, it is a life style that we have to learn. Seeking GOD’s face or His presence also takes time, prayer is not knocking on GOD’s door and entering in to receive His Goodness. Turning from our wicked ways – repentance – takes time, repentance means to change our mind, when we change our mind about our lifestyle we have to start practicing our new lifestyle. We have to practice thinking and then doing what is right, just, gracious, generous, etc.

 

In these verses GOD is saying that when He is judging us for our wicked lifestyle, we have to change our wicked life style and that begins by seeking Him; this is personally, as families, as groups, fellowships, ministries, churches, organizations and denominations; it’s as workers, employers, companies, industries, medias, institutions and governments.

 

I have been hearing 2 Chronicles 7:14 taught and preached seriously since 2014 and after seven years I don’t see much change. From my view and perspective (which is limited) I don’t see what GOD is calling His people to be active in as The Body of CHRIST locally or nationally. Stop thinking about what you want or need and start thinking about what GOD commands of you, your family, etc.
