Discipleship

Discipleship

To be a disciple of JESUS means that you take up your cross daily and follow Him. JESUS’s cross was to obey His Heavenly Father even to death on the cross (Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 12:1-2), and that is our cross also, to obey our Heavenly Father even to death (Revelation 12:10-12). We must follow JESUS’ example;

Mark 8:34-35 “When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, ‘Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and The Gospel’s will save it.’”

Our cross as believers in JESUS is to obey our Heavenly Father, you start by obeying your parents, your Sunday School teachers and the Church elders, you learn as much of The Bible as you can and The Holy SPIRIT will guide and teach you.

As disciples of JESUS we must learn to keep the Ten Commandments: Exodus 20:1-17

Love GOD and worship only Him.

Make no idols or graven images of anything that you bow down to or worship.

Do not use GOD’s Name in vain or curse.

Honor the Sabbath (a day of rest each week).

Honor your father and mother – this is the first commandment with a Blessing, long life.

Do not murder.

No sexual sin.

Do not steal.

Do not lie or be a false witness.

Do not desire what anyone else has.

We also have to keep JESUS’ commandments: John 8:31-32, 15:14

Seek GOD First! Matthew 6:33

Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Luke 10:27

Lay down your life for The Brethren. John 15:13

Do to others what you want them to do to you. Matthew 7:12

Do good to those who spitefully use you. Matthew 5:44

Love your enemies. Matthew 5:44

Preach The Gospel. Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8

Cast out demons. Mark 16:17

Lay hands on the sick and pray. Mark 16:18

Baptize new believers. Matthew 28:19

Disciple new believers. Matthew 28:20

Do not judge others. Matthew 7:1-5

Forgive others their sins. Matthew 6:12, 14-15

And there are many more!

To those who say we live under Grace and not the Law, that The Law was done away with: “Do not think that I came to destroy The Law or The Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For Assuredly, I say to you, till Heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from The Law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:17-20, (Galatians 6:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Revelation 1:3, 22:14).

So to be disciples of JESUS we must do The Will of GOD for The Church (The Great Commission) and The Will of GOD for our own life. Knowing The Bible and keeping His commands is part of doing The Father’s Will. We also must seek His Righteousness and Kingdom so that we abide in JESUS then The Holy SPIRIT will reveal GOD’s Call for our life. He gifted us when we were in our mother’s womb and wrote out the days of our life before they existed, (Psalm 139:13-18) so now we must seek GOD and obey His Will.
