Peace That Passes Understanding!
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to GOD, and the
Peace of GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard you hearts and minds
through CHRIST JESUS.” Philippians 4:6-7
So many of us call out to GOD for peace that passes all
understanding in the midst of our crisis.
Prayer is talking with GOD, like JESUS taught us in Matthew
6:9-13 and did in John 17.
Supplication is humble and earnest prayer like what JESUS did
in the Garden of Gethsemane (“…not My Will but Yours be done!”).
Prayer is what we do daily, before there is a crisis and
supplication is what we do daily and when the crisis hits.
And because we know that He hears our prayers and therefore
answers our prayers, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if
we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us. And if we know that He
hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have
asked of Him.”, 1 John 5:14-15. “…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous
man avails much…”, James 5:13-18 (16b).
It is not how fervent we pray, even with fasting, in the
crisis; it is how righteous we have been living and how frequently we
fellowship with GOD in prayer and if we are praying according to His Will! Then
we have Peace that surpasses all understanding!
The point of this teaching is that many people, including
Christians quote “the peace that passes all understanding”, some will quote it
as “the Peace of GOD that passes all understanding”, but these are wrong. Even
when they credit GOD for the peace they are not fulfilling the requirement of
receiving GOD’s Peace that passes all understanding.
Now some are going to say, “We don’t live under the law
anymore, we live under grace.” Wrong! JESUS said in Matthew 7:21-23 to those
who were doing the works of GOD’s Kingdom in the earth, “…Then I will declare
to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (23b)
This is part of the sermon on the mount Matthew 5-7.
JESUS told us “If you Love Me, keep My Commandments. He who
has My Commandments and keeps them, it is he who Loves Me. And he who Loves Me
will be Loved by My Father, and I will Love him and manifest Myself to him.”
John 14:15,21 This was during the evening of His arrest.
JESUS gave us about 60 commandments and He expects us to keep
them if we claim to be Christians, He also expects us to keep The Ten
Commandments. Read His teachings He not only quotes commandments from the Law
but He gives us new ones. “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My Reward is
with Me, to give to everyone according to his work. I Am The Alpha and The
Omega, The Beginning and The End, The First and The Last.’ Blessed are those
who do His Commandments (wash their robes), that they may have the right to The
Tree of Life, and may enter through the gates into the city. Buy outside are
dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murders and idolaters, and whoever
loves and practices a lie. ‘I, JESUS, have sent My angel to testify to you
these things in the Churches. I Am The Root and The Offspring of David, The
Bright and Morning Star.’” Revelation 22:12-16
