The Devil and Demons

What The Bible says about them.

 

I heard a preacher on TV say:

1. “GOD has power” and in the same sentence he said “the devil has powers.”

2. About something (I don’t remember now), “…that is straight from the pit of hell.”

3. Satan empowers the demons.

 

These three things did not sit right with me, so:

Satan does not have powers! He has a power, death from prideful rebellion with which he deceives any who will listen. Genesis 3:13; Hebrews 2:14; 2 Corinthians 11:3-4; John 8:44, 10:10; Revelation 20:7-8

 

Power comes from authority and GOD has authority over everything, especially the devil! Job 1:6-12, 2:1-7; Matthew 6:13, 9:6, 22:29, 28:18; John 5:26-7, 10:18, 17:1-5, 19:11; 1 Corinthians 1:18, 24; 1 Timothy 1:17; Hebrews 1:1-4, 6:13-20; 2 Peter 1:1-4; Jude:25; Revelation 4:11, 5:11-14, 7:11-12, 11:16-19, 20:1-3

 

The devil’s authority is not his, he gets it from those who obey him. Nowhere in the Scriptures does it say that the devil of his own self can hurt or overcome people against their will. He can only use trickery and lies to deceive people into obeying him and becoming enslaved to him.

Nothing comes from hell! Satan, demons and humans who reject GOD are going to hell and the lake of fire! Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:14-15, 21:8

 

Satan does not empower demons! The work and authority GOD gave them when He created them has been perverted (just as Lucifer’s is) and they can only operate in that perverted power. If they were created to rule or protect or war, whatever they were created to do in Heaven they now do on earth, but perverted. Just as the gifts and callings of GOD that He gives to humans are not taken away just because they sin and rebel against GOD, so what the angels that rebelled have not lost their purpose. Romans 11:29-63; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6; Ephesians 6:10-18; Revelation 12:7-13

 

There is a bottomless pit or the abyss, one of the plagues comes out of the abyss and Satan is bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years. Revelation 9:1-3, 20:1-3
