Pray Correctly

Pray Correctly

There are two famous and often repeated prayers from the Bible that many use as mantras.

“You therefore pray like this, ‘Our Father who is in Heaven, Holy is Your Name! Your Kingdom Come Your Will be done in the earth as it is in Heaven! Give us today what we need for life and forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us! Do not let us be led into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For Your’s is The Kingdom and The Power and The Glory forever. Amen!’” Matthew 6:9-13

“then, if My people, who are called by My Name will humble themselves, pray, seek My face and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from Heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

The problem is not the prayers it is our heart attitude when we pray them! We pray them for what we want rather than what GOD Will is, even when we are praying for GOD’s Will we have in mind what that is rather than just receiving. We most often quote and pray these verses out of context in relation to what we are praying for.

The purpose of prayer is not to simply get things from God, but to move into intimacy with God. Sometimes targeted prayer, or praying for stuff, even good stuff gets in the way of just getting there, to that quiet place where there is nothing more to say. Just you and GOD alone, sometimes in utter silence.

Prayer is one of the ways that we become intimate with GOD. GOD Loves us and according to JESUS He wants us to one with Him as JESUS is One with Him, JESUS prayed. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me…And the Glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are One:…And I have declared to them Your Name, and will declare It, that the Love with which You Loved Me will be in them, and I in them.” John 17:20-26

So prayer brings us closer to GOD in His Love and in unity with Him; then we will understand His Word and His SPIRIT can teach us how to be a Christian. JESUS often went off by Himself to pray and spend time with His Father. So must we, we must spent time with GOD and not just ask but also listen.
